STAYING RELEVANT
– Strategy, Innovation and Survival for Record Labels

Veni, vidi, vinci. Or something to that effect. Well, maybe not to that particular effect, but what did actually transpire on that sunny Wednesday, June 1st, the first day of the Distortion Festival was that we arrived at AIAIAI HQ, cleaned up the backyard that provided our setting, rigged the benches and held the first ever Distortion Institute event. ‘Staying Relevant’ was aimed at musicians, aspiring entrepreneurs, journalists and, of course, anyone who’d like to gain an informed perspective on the contemporary music industry. The event featured an opinionated, competent industry panel consisting of Nick Catchdubs and Hawaii Mike Salman (Fool’s Gold/US), Lewis Colston (Playground Music Denmark/DK) and Martin Ibsen (Yourwaves/Musikparlamentet/DK), all of whom were eager to share their experiences and knowledge with the audience.

The structure and form of the debate was organized into three rounds with three topics and we had a Q&A with the audience at the end of each topic, a dynamic that yielded some interesting viewpoints, anecdotes and quite a bit of insider-y banter. Have a look/listen for yourself.

Shout-outs to: co-curators AIAIAI and our talkative panel.
